Resumen
El suicidio cobra cerca de 727.000 vidas cada año a nivel mundial. Esta cifra se supera hasta 20 veces por los intentos de suicidio, siendo la tercera causa de muerte entre jóvenes de 15 a 29 años. En la Región de las Américas, la tasa de mortalidad a causa del suicidio aumentó un 17 % en las últimas dos décadas, en contraste con una reducción global del 36 %. En Colombia, se suicidaron 22.986 personas en los últimos 10 años, convirtiéndose en la cuarta causa de muerte en el país. En 2024, se registraron 2.984 suicidios consumados a nivel nacional; 80 % en hombres y 20% en mujeres. La tarea de comprender y prevenir los suicidios en las distintas etapas del curso de vida lleva platearse como objetivo reflexionar sobre la forma como se configura la ideación suicida; el primer eslabón del espectro suicida. Para hacerlo, se analiza teóricamente el concepto de cognición social y cómo los errores en la Teoría de la Mente afectan la habilidad para comprender los estados mentales propios y ajenos, lo que se asocia con sensación de soledad, desconexión social, falta de empatía y dificultades en la comunicación, todos estos factores descritos por la Teoría Interpersonal del suicidio como elementos de la pertenencia frustrada y la carga percibida que, al conjugarse, pueden dar paso a la ideación suicida. Este tipo de reflexiones abre la puerta a intervenciones terapéuticas enfocadas en mejorar las habilidades sociales y la empatía como una forma de generar factores protectores en la población.
