In 2009 a group of Latin American researchers was interested in creating an education and research community to promote interdisciplinary research groups focused on the "Education Model Based on the Development of Research Skills Supported by the Use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)" derived from the experience of 6 years at Politécnico Grancolombiano (Colombia). The name given to this community was
urdimbre (warp) Education and Research due to the meaning of the set of threads that are placed on the loom longitudinally and parallel to form tissue. Keeping into account the time from the moment of its creation, it is necessary to analyze the challenges, success, and failures of the community. This analysis is tackled from a follow-up methodology with indicators for the proposed projects and the commitment of the institutions. Using data derived from the application of semi-structured surveys to members of the network, we obtained results that are aimed at strengthening the community and also used as a reference by other academic and research communities in Latin America for the creation and success of this type of networks.
